JMH City Hospital Celebrates Another Successful 2019 Eye Care Awareness Campaign
JMH City Hospital through its community social responsibility projects, provided free cataract surgeries to those in need during 2019. City Hospital partnered with organisation’s and City Hospital’s resident Doctors to make this eye awareness campaign possible.
Eye Care Awareness Month is commemorated annually internationally specifically during September and October, however City Hospital’s year through project is to raise awareness about the importance of eye health, specifically around the prevention and treatment of avoidable blindness.
City Hospital has continued with its efforts to assist those in need of this much needed surgery by partnering with McCord’s Hospital, The Sultan Bahu Centre and Into the Light Foundation. It has assisted over 60 patients in the current year through its CSR projects.
“We acknowledge the challenge our community and healthcare system is experiencing with cataract surgeries. City Hospital’s commitment is to assist as much as we can to reduce this demand. We are committed in working together with organisations to be able to assist those in need.” Mr Rafeek Nakooda, JMH City Hospital Manager said.
Nakooda further commended the assistance of the participating doctors in the program who have embraced these initiatives and share the hospitals passion in assisting the community.

City Hospital is part of the Joint Medical Holdings Group which includes private hospitals in Durban Central Area, Isipingo and Richards Bay. The Group has a wide range of specialities which includes Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Oncology, Maternity, Urology, Ophthalmology, ENT etc. The Group also includes the Gandhi Mandela Nursing Academy and Citimed Ambulance Service.
